Gardening Book Club:
We Made a Garden

A classic of gardening literature, Margery Fish's We Made a Garden (1956) details the true story of how she and her husband transformed their Somerset plot into a world-renowned cottage garden (still open to the public today). Witty and readable, this is the perfect winter book for sowing garden dreams. Come pick up your copy and then join us at our Gardening Book Club to share your thoughts. Class: St. Patrick's Day Botanical Collage
Saturday, March 14th @ 10:00 - 11:00 am
Come celebrate St. Patrick's Day by creating your own St. Patrick's Day-themed floral collage or card. Our class table will be adorned with a paper botanical treasure trove (vintage botanical illustrations, ditsy floral stationery prints, floral stickers, and pressed floral 4-leaf clovers) and we'll also have a list of well-loved St. Patrick's Day sentiments to add to your piece. Spend a lovely hour among kindred floral-loving spirits picking your favorites and then collaging them as your intuition guides. At the end of the hour, you'll be surprised by the unique and beautiful artwork your handiwork has brought to life!

Sew & Bloom Film Club: Enchanted April

Our Sew & Bloom film club is devoted to watching our hand-picked film favorites - all featuring gorgeous gardens and uplifting stories. Our pick for March is the the 1992 film adaptation of Elizabeth von Arnim's beloved novel, The Enchanted April. Watch ahead and then join us to discuss your take and meet new floral-loving friends. Travel with us to the gorgeous world of Parisian design team Antoinette Poisson - they invite us in this gorgeous book to savor the seasons with them at Maison Lescop, their 18th century textile-drenched townhouse. Come pick up your copy and read (or pour over) on a brisk early spring day and then join our discussion to share your favorite pages or textiles. Class: Painting the April Garden
Saturday, April 25th @ 10:00 - 11:00 am
​Join us as we revel in the miracle of spring unfolding in the garden and capture the joy of the season in our original watercolor floral still lifes. Our inspiration will be fresh cut blooms from the Sew & Bloom garden (possibilities include daffodils, hyacinth, bluebells, muscari, tulips, and more). We'll discuss watercolor floral painting techniques and then bring our favorites to life in loose watercolor strokes as we paint. Come spend a meditative and joy-filled hour among kindred floral-loving spirits and fragrant spring blooms.

Books & Blooms Event
with Author Emily Franklin
Friday, May 1st @ 4:00 - 6:00 pm
We're thrilled to be hosting our first Meet the Author event, featuring bestselling author Emily Franklin (The Lioness of Boston). Emily will be at the shop signing copies of her new book, Love & Other Monsters, about the heady summer of 1816, the famous literary gathering of Romantic writers that gave the world Frankenstein, and the untold story of Claire Clairmont (lover of Lord Byron and stepsister of Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley) who was at the center of it all. Stop by anytime between 4-6 to meet Emily, ask her about any of her novels, and pick up signed copies of either Love & Other Monsters or The Lioness of Boston.

Old Herbaceous

One of England's great gardening classics and now included in Michael Pollen's Modern Library's Gardening series, Reginald Arkell's Old Herbaceous (1950) is a charming and gentle look at life in the garden through an England that spans the Victorian era to post Second World War. Wonderfully paced and equally humorous and poignant, Old Herbaceous is a perfect spring read for any gardening or history lover. Class: Mother's Day Weekend Pick and Paint
Saturday, May 9th @ 10:00 - 11:00 am
As we head into Mother's Day weekend, treat yourself (and maybe mom too!) to an hour filled with floral joy. We'll have flowers and herbs fresh-picked from the Sew & Bloom garden arrayed down our center table and you'll have a chance to arrange your favorites into a hand-picked bouquet. We'll use our bouquets as inspiration as we learn basic floral watercolor techniques and bring our bouquets to life in loose watercolor strokes.

Open Studio for the Textile Design Curious
Saturday, May 16th @ 10:00 - 11:00 am
​Curious about textile design? Have a dream of one day designing your own fabric? You can do it! As a self-taught artist and textile designer, it gives me joy to help others launch their own creative dreams. Come to this open studio with your questions and ask away! No question is too big or too small! Potential topics we can cover include tech tools, creating patterns from previous artwork, designing seamless repeats, fabric-printing resources, etc.
Fee: Free for members; $40 suggested purchase for non-members

In the year 1884, a remarkable 12-year old girl made a paper doll's house, collaging together wallpaper, engravings, trim, and furniture cut outs from catalogues to create a stunning world in miniature. This gorgeous book recreates her creation, down to the paper dolls and their costumes in a pocket envelope. Celebrate a Special Occasion
Did you know that you can celebrate a special birthday, family reunion, or team milestone with us? We've hosted everything from a gals' night birthday celebration to a work team bonding outing to a family workshop for three generations. We will tailor the class to your group's interests. Examples of possible workshops include:

Celebrating a birthday by creating a floral still life - Each attendee paints a flower in honor of the birthday guest and then everyone collages their flowers onto a shared keepsake canvas - a joyful, memorable, and fun-filled way to make new memories and celebrate a special day!

Team bonding through fast bouquet painting - Everyone loves this workshop where we tap into our inner artists through expressive floral painting. People see new sides of their colleagues, appreciate all their collective creative abilities, and everyone leaves with their very own floral masterpiece memento of this shared experience.

Celebrating family togetherness by creating a family bouquet - each attendee paints their birth month flower and then everyone collages their flower into a collective family bouquet that can be framed as a symbol of family love and a memento of this shared time together.
